You know your vehicle, you’ve been driving it for years, and always kept the maintenance schedule up to date. Lately, you’ve been hearing a mysterious noise coming from under the vehicle, more noticeable when you hit a bump in the road. What is that mysterious noise, and what can be done about it? Planning a road trip with the family can be unnerved when a weird noise shows up in your vehicle. Here are some tips for figuring out what it is, and what to do about it.
Clean out the trunk. It’s amazing how loud the old camping gear can be when it clangs together in the cargo area. Hopefully the “fix” is this easy. Check the rear window and the rear hatch to make sure they’re secure. The sound could be your tailpipe or a worn-out suspension part, but chances are, if you’re hearing a mysterious noise coming from under your vehicle, it’s time for a trip to the auto mechanic. It could be something as simple as a loose exhaust pipe or a rock caught in the wheel well. Or, it could be something more serious, like a problem with the suspension or brakes. Either way, it’s best to have a professional take a look and make any necessary repairs. After all, your safety (and the safety of your passengers) is always worth the peace of mind that comes with knowing your vehicle is in good working order.
